More than 500,000 women die annually in childbirth, 99% of these in developing countries. For every woman who dies in childbirth probably 30 incur injuries and infections. A Zonta Birthing Kit, costing as little as $1.60 to produce, consists of a sheet of plastic, a piece of soap, 1 pair of latex gloves, 3 pieces of cord, 1 scalpel blade and some gauze squares, all contained in a small plastic press-seal bag.

The Zonta Club of Swan Hills were joined by the Hampton Park Adventure and Morley Girl Guides at their Birthing Kit Workshop held on the 2nd May 2010 in Lockridge.  1,000 kits were assembled and sent to Nigeria, Uganda & Vietnam.
