Young Women in Public Affairs 2009  Delara Javat

Our three finalists for 2009 were Amy Hunt, Delara Javat and Jaimee Edwards, with the winner being Delara Javat.  Delara received a cheque for $500 and will proceed to the District Level of the International Award.  Delara also was presented with a Zonta Rose Pin, which is the symbol of Zontal International, an award certificate and the Zontal symbolic rose.

Delara wishes to study medicine and would like to become a doctor to give her the opportunity to help many people in different ways, in particular with cancer research.  Delara currently volunteers with Solaris – Integrated Care for Cancer at Sir Charles Gardner Hospital.

With The Oaktree Foundation, Delara worked towards raising money for sending food and toys to send to Pakistan after the earthquake there in 2005.

Delara has learned Greek dancing through her school and now teaches Greek dancing to younger students. This has taken her to Greece where she won a scholarship from the Greek Government for her high achievements in Greek Studies.

Her teacher has written that she is a true credit to her school, family, and the wider community.
