Young Women Public Affairs Awards

Since 1990, Zonta International has presented 498 district and international Young Women in Public Affairs Awards to young women from 49 countries.  Zonta Swan Hills calls for submissions each year for this award and the successful candidate receives $500 and then proceeds to the Area Level and the District 23 Level of the Award.

In the 2008-2010 Biennium, a total of US$ 94,000 will be apportioned to 32 districts at US$ 1,000 and five international awards of US$3,000 for each year of the bienniium.

The Jane M. Kausman Women in Business Scholarship Fund

Jane Klausman, a Zontian for many years, wanted to help women on their path to successful business careers.  As part of her estate plan, she included a general bequest to the Zonta Foundation to establish this scholarship.

Each year six international scholarships each of US$5,000 are presented to women pursuing undergraduate degrees in business.

In the 2008-2010 Biennium a total of US$ 120,000 is apportioned as 12 international scholarships at US$5,000 each year of the biennium.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship

The Amelia Earhart Fellowship is one of oldest awards established by Zonta International.  The award supports women pursuing a PhD in aerospace-related sciences and engineering.  It was established in 1938 to honour Amelia Earhart, a Zontian and the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean.  The fellowships are currently worth US$10,000 each.  Successful first time applicants may also apply for a second fellowship.

A member of the Zonta Club of Swan Hills Inc, a recipient of the Amelia Earhart Fellowship award on three occasions in 1970, 1971 and 1972 and a former member of the Zonta International expert panel of judges selecting AEF winners, Professor Carolina (Carla) Fasano, offers a few suggestions to facilitate the task for prospective applicants:

The fellowships are highly competitive.  Applicants from the best universities apply.  Successful candidates are in the top few percentiles of students. They are not only achieving academically but also have interests and involvement in broader social and other areas.

In the 2008-2010 Biennium US$ 700,000 is apportioned as 35 international awards at US$ 10,000 each year of the biennium.
